REQUIRED FORMS AND DOCUMENTS

This Master at Arms Academy has been developed to train qualified Naval Sea Cadet Master at Arms, while introducing cadets to the law enforcement community in both the Navy and civilian world. This training is not for the unmotivated, unwilling, or unprepared. It is designed to challenge each cadet, to develop attention to detail, order and discipline, while teaching Sea Cadet policies and regulations. It is a physically and mentally challenging two weeks, but the Training Staff will assist cadets in every way to ensure that when they return to their home unit, they will be well equipped to fill the billet of Master at Arms, and be a leader among their shipmates.

Law enforcement training is provided by both the Naval Station Oceana Master at Arms Force as well as the Virginia Beach Police Department, in addition to NSCC officers and instructors. Cadets will receive both hands on and classroom training in areas such as weapons qualification, non lethal weapons skills, conducting vehicle and building searches and traffic stops, handling domestic situations, interviewing and interrogation techniques, and apprehendingsuspects. They will be introduced to the various fields of law enforcement including forensics, anti terrorism, criminal investigations, and special operations (SWAT, K-9, Bomb Squad, Mounted Police, Gang Task Force, etc.)

Cadets will also have the opportunity to run the Sheriff's Department Obstacle Course, tour the Police Headquarters, Courthouse and the City Jail, sit in on a criminal trial, and go aboard a large deck US Navy Ship to learn about the shipboard duties of the Master at Arms Department.

If you are interested in applying for this training, please read through the requirements for participation to ensure you are eligible, then contact the COTC at regionaldirector054@comcast.net to request a quota.  If you do not meet the minimum age and rank requirements your Commanding Officer must submit a waiver request to LCDR Anderson, COTC, in the form of a letter stating your qualifications and reason a waiver should be granted.
